Yesterday morning, I finally started to run; the Couch to 5K plan. I've only been talking about it for five months or so. About time I started.
Do I have the "proper" running shoes? Nope, I don't. But, I figured I need to stop letting excuses (like no "proper" shoes) stop me from starting. I will obtain better shoes once I prove to myself that I will stick with running.
I have two running buddies and maybe three. I am thankful they are willing to run with me as I did not want to do this by myself. Besides, I like having an activity that we are doing together; bonding, of sorts.
Those buddies of mine are Elizabeth and Grace. Elliana may join in next week. Grace really wants to do this with me; she was a fine C25K participant today. She was unable to do the running as planned so she walked (ran 30sec to every minute of mine). That was all good; Elizabeth and I would just head back to her during the walking phases. Elizabeth is far more conditioned than me; thanks to Cheerleading. Me? Energized would be an adjective for how I feel. I am psyched even though I was ready for yesterday's run to be done 5 minutes sooner than the plan stated. What kept me motivated? Peer pressure; Elizabeth. I couldn't quit now could I? -when she was continuing on. Also, we used a cool app on my phone that helped; those timers/markers of when to run and walk was helpful for my mental fatigue tendency. The app? It's called C25K.
We will continue; three times/week is the plan. Day one accomplished 2 miles of alternating walking/running, but we walked an additional 1/2 mile. Had to get back to the car. I liked where we ran; around a lake at our local forest preserve. We will most likely continue using this location, for now.
To see my run for day one, check out my strava activity.
Running offered up a different level of cardio and muscle group usage than I am use to. This is good as I do plan to continue with cycling which seems to use a different grouping.
So yes, I am psyched about Couch to 5K. A good start to the program plan. I am liking the idea of incorporating running along with cycling into my fitness part of life. Maybe, one day, I will add in swimming and then hey...triathlon, here I come. Nah.
I am hopeful that I will accomplish all eight weeks. Then from there? Who knows, I shall see.

Side note: after writing this post, yesterday, in draft - I went on a 11 mile bike. It felt great. But the morning - today- brought me legs that were very sore. However, sore legs didn't stop me. We did day two this morning, and then, about two hours later, Robert & I rode our bikes for 14 miles. We had a very busy day - morning C25K, lunch, bike ride, and then getting ready for Elliana's 14th birthday celebrations.
Happy Birthday Elliana!
I have taken note of this....the last few weeks have been pretty rough; mood wise. These last two days has been fabulous for my mood. Much of what I was experiencing has not been present. I contribute that to exercise. I must remember this.
To see my run for day two, check out my strava activity.
To see my bike ride for today, check out my strava activity. I was exhausted, but I really liked today's ride.
