2011: End of Year Music Roundup

Oh whoa!  First off, I royally bombed with posting weekly for my Song of the Week Posts.  For 2012, I am going to improve my 2011 stats which are found at the end of this post. I would also love to increase conversation regarding music - what you are listening to, music new to you, etc.  Any suggestions, on how to increase music related conversation, I gladly will accept.

My Favorite Music Artist for the Year 2011:
Josh Groban

UsJoshGroban

Clearly, I had a thing for Josh Groban during 2011. I cannot deny it, my blog proves that he stole my attention away from other musical artists. He was featured at least six times on my blog during 2011 - not counting inserts in other posts. Not only did 4 out of my 24 weeks of Song of the Week posts find a song from Josh Groban, I also wrote a couple of Josh Groban music event posts. Also, I know for a fact, that I listened to him far more than my blog indicates.

Oh Yeah!  Bon Jovi!

Surprises.....

~ I did not post one single song by Muse.  What is up with that?

~ I did not post one single song by Bon Jovi - not including the music event post. What is up with that? I could have sworn I did, but alas, I cannot find one. Hmmm...I listened to them tons.

~  The Song of the Week feature was posted far less than I realized.

Song of the Week Stats:

~ 20 weeks plus 4 weeks highlighting Christmas albums = 24 weeks

~ Josh Groban =  4 weeks + 2 other music post

~ Adele = 2 weeks

~ Coldplay = 2 weeks (3 songs)

Again, 24 weeks worth of Song of the Week posts is rather pathetic. I am going to try to increase my post count for 2012.  Even so, I am pleased with my choices for 2011, and have greatly enjoyed listening to them as I wrote this post.

Thanks. Hopefully 2012 will bring a plenty of music listening with variety.

Clearly Josh takes the cake. ;) I look forward to more of this weekly feature. We have quite a few similar tastes in music.

Do you think Suey will be pleased that Josh was top dog on my music list for the year? :)

I have noticed, from the music you post on your blog, that we do have similar tastes. Very fun.

All that Josh warms my heart!  I am grinning from ear to ear! :)

I would love more music conversation on my blog too, but don't know how to do it. I will be sure to keep commenting on your music posts. I love them.

I have thought about joining in on music memes, but decided that I did not want the weekly pressure of linking up and visiting everyone else's links. I guess, what I would like is to converse with those who actually visit my blog on a regular or somewhat regular basis. Make sense? or not?

I enjoy your music posts too. It is fun to see what has gained your listening ear in a given week.

Yes, it totally makes sense. Well, hopefully we can figure it out and make it happen!

This is a great idea! I was curious as to what my top songs of the year were, so I quickly checked last.fm (yay for something that keeps track of my music stats for me), and my top for the last 12 months surprised me. But, seeing as I started actively branching out and searching for new music part way through 2011, I think that my top 5 from the last 6 months more accurately shows my favourites from the year, opposed to just what I listened to a lot.

1) Bon Iver - Beth / Rest
2) Gotye - Somebody That I Used To Know
3) Bon Iver - Calgary
4) Admiral Fallow - Squealing Pigs
5) Bon Iver - Perth
and 6) (because it really does belong in the top 5 category) Richard Walters - All At Sea

Lots of mellow tunes in 2011 :)

Well, Suey, if only a few people such as you, Jenny, and some others like Carl, L, Logan, and Alita are the ones who comment on my music posts - I am okay because you guys all rock with your thoughts. It would be great to get some other chimed in thoughts, but I am fine. Let us just keep sharing our music interests.

You, I do believe, are the person who first brought Bon Iver to my attention. I do like that group, and was actually going back and forth with myself about purchasing their mp3 album of Bon Iver. I did not, but if Amazon still has it for a low price by end of this week then i will be adding it to my mp3 collection.

I love reading your Monday posts when you list your top 5 most listened to songs for that week - I discovered bands from you that I would not otherwise have discovered. Thanks.

I've learned over the years of blogging that no matter how passionate you are about something, it really is difficult to stick to a weekly schedule of posting about anything.  So I hope you don't feel too bad about the missed weeks.

That said I do enjoy your music posts.

I'm a little surprised Josh Groban didn't make it on to your year end list, I know you like the guys' music a bit.  ;)

He's a worthwhile guy to be on the list, that is for sure.  I didn't get near enough of his Christmas music this past year.

Looking forward to seeing what songs spark a fire in you in 2012.

A few musical sparks have been fired already for this year. I will share the first one this Friday.

No worries about weekly post themes for me. I have let go of that self-induced schedule pressure which would be one reason why I did not have as many weekly Song of the Week posts as I thought I would. However, I would like to do this post a bit more frequently, and considering just posting the song that has caught my attention for the week sans explanation/summarizing if not inspired to do so, or time lacking, or whatever along those lines.

I thank you for sharing your musical interests. You have brought attention to artists that I would otherwise not have noticed or investigated further.

Bon Iver was one of the few full albums I purchased in 2011 (as opposed to individual tracks), and let me tell you, it was worth every cent.

ibeeeg said...

Very good to know.
Bon Iver is on my list of albums to purchase.
